Getting in Shape to walk to Mackinaw!!!

Today I left the house and headed toward the office on foot (both feet really!)

It took me about an hour and a quarter to get there starting out on Tireman Avenue and walking to Greenfield then going South to Michigan Ave. to the Office.  I rested for a bout 20 minutes and then started back toward the house.

I walked on Michigan until I got to Miller and took Miller Road up to Tireman Avenue where I turned right and headed back home.

It too me right at an hour to walk home from the office.  It was at a good brisk pace on both legs of the route!  I used the walking sticks that Vesa and Ashleigh purchased for me.  They really seem to help!

After getting home I logged my trip on 'Map my Walk'  It was a 7.6 miles trek, I think... or somewhere around there.

It has been over a week since I last walked.  Last week at the lake, I came down hard on a rock with my right arch and bruised it...That is the first time that has happened.  So this was the first day back walking... 'on the training trail!'

Folks seems to be really friendly today!  Many said... "Hello, how are you...?"  I would respond "Well!" and then say, "I am walking to Mackinaw!"  Most of them just 'lit up!'   It was fun!  It would take my mind off the task long enough so I did not get mentally tired!

Also I used a Camel back water pouch that my son Paul bought for me!  It is a smaller back pack with a water bladder in one compartment that is attached to a flexible pipe that comes around the pack to the front.  At the end of the pipe is a valve that I can just put in my mouth and drink when I get thirsty.  When I would start feeling a bit dry in my mouth of or my legs would ache a bit, I would take three strong swiggs and could immediately feel the difference!

Also I noticed the last couple of miles that my legs and hips were feeling the walk.  So I would step over onto the grass and walk for a bit there and the pressure would go away!

I am looking forward to this trip!  Tomorrow I hope to stretch this out a bit longer!

So that is all for today!

A New Idea from those who want to help with 'Trey's Trek!'

Today, as I was corresponding with some of our close friends from out of State, they expressed a deep desire to come and make this trek with us!  But because of  'this or that', they would not be able to come!  So two different couples in the State of NC in different cities, suggested that they will get pledges from folks in their area and do the walk near to where they live!   This would take place the same time that we are walking to Mackinaw from Dearborn here in Michigan.

Wow!  What an attitude!  What willingness to help!  What initiative!  What encouragment for us here in Michigan!  Thank you Jesus!

One other person who lives in Alabama who went to High School with me said ... because of a knee injury, she would not be able to do this.  So in the flow of the conversation I suggested that she take the change that ended up in her pocket at the end of each day, from now until September and put it in a jar.  Then when September comes around, 'give' that change toward the project... She said "that would work!"  So another idea was born!  The Lord will provide!

I am walking to ready myself for the journey!  I am excited about this trek and I am looking forward to what is in store along the route.

For those of you who are aware of what is going to take place... please pray for me that I am ready; body, mind and soul!  I really want to make this event something that honors Jesus!

Preparation for the Walk...

I am getting ready to do something that I have never done before in my lifetime!

I am making serious plans to "walk" from Dearborn, MI to Mackinaw City, MI in September of this year!

Just the mental ranglings of such a task still gives me the 'hebegebees'!  But the more I think about it and pray it through... it is possible!  So I have been poking around on Google Maps and checking out the routes that I could take to get there!

Right now it looks like the trip would take me from 20 to 22 days depending on the weather and how my body holds up at age 55!  Oh my goodness, am I really that old!?  Anyway, that is my direction at the moment.

We are planning on starting on Labor Day, September 5th for the first leg of the walk from our church on Michigan Avenue going up through Edward Hines Drive (which is a Wayne County Park that is almost 20 miles long) to as far as Beck Road just North of  Northville, MI.  After arriving there,  I plan on leading an intercessory prayer meeting that evening for Dearborn... someplace in the vacinity. (details forthcoming)

The next morning we will continue our trek up to Camp Dearborn in Milford, MI and meet by the River and pray again for the ministry in Dearborn and the construction of the facility that we are revitalizing!

I will be asking folks to sponsor us... 'so much a mile' for the 275 to 300 mile trip.  The funds we are raising will go to pay for the construction costs of our building project here in Dearborn.

I also want our friends who know what we are doing here in Dearborn... in building this Church.  So I am asking for anyone who is able and willing,  to come and walk with us...!  I am inviting folks to join us and walk whatever leg of the trip they are able to walk.

There are going to be 20 days of walking that will eventually cover a 300 miles route.   So there will be plenty of time and space for friends to join us along the route we plan to take.  People can come on whatever day they are free to come and walk as long as they want to walk... as I myself will walk the whole distance!

It would be appreciated if those who come to walk with us, would also ask for pledges from others, for the distance that they walk along with us in 'Trey's Trek' North.

There will be more posted later... I don't want to wear you out with my words

Trey
